Books for All Ages
Books are lots of fun! Here are some of our favorites: 1. The Wingfeather Saga, by Andrew Peterson A delightful story about brothers and sisters in a whimsical world called Aerwiar. (Note: books become more intense as the series progresses, however this is a redemptive fantasy with Christian values in mind). Books in Series: On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness, North! Or be Eaten, The Monster in the Hollow, The Warden and the Wolf King. 2. A Father's Promise, by Donna Lynn Hess A historical novel set during Poland in WWII about a young Polish boy named Rudy Kaplan as he navigates surviving the Nazi invasion. 3. Medallion, by Dawn L. Watkins The story of a young boy who must overcome his defects and wear the crown he was always meant to have. 4. The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis An all time favorite about the wonderful land of Narnia and the Great Lion, Aslan. Books in series: The Magician's Nephew, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Horse and his Boy, Prince Caspian, The Silver Chair, The Last Battle. (Note: The Silver Chair and Last Battle are pretty intense, but nothing gory). 5. Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott This is a beautiful story about four sisters growing up during and after the Civil War. While giving us a look at how they lived in that time period, it also gives us a lovely tale about growing up and becoming who we were meant to be. (Note: the latter part of the book has some romance in it, but nothing innappropriate) 6. Anne of Green Gables, by L.M. Montgomery The touching tale of a spirited red headed orphan girl with a grand imagination who ends up on Prince Edward Island. (Note: there are more books in the series, but book 1 is the main one holding the interest level for any age. The Story Girl books are also excellent) 7. Number the Stars, by Lois Lowery Number the Stars by Lois Lowery is an exciting, beautiful story of a young girl and her family as they race to rescue their Jewish friend from the Nazis and escape to freedom. 8. The Green Ember Series, by S.D. Smith Another wonderful fantasy series all about rabbits with swords as they fight against the oncoming darkness in the world of Natalia. Full of adventure, and reminiscent of Tolkien's works, it is a must read! Books in series: The Green Ember, Ember Falls, Ember Rising, Ember's End. (There are also two side series I would highly reccomend). 9. Winnie-the-Pooh, by A.A. Milne The touching, whimsical tale of everyone's favorite bear and his friends, perfect for all ages! 10. The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, by J.R.R. Tolkien The humerous, meaningful story of a little Hobbit who comes to find his courage and joins thirteen dwarves on a daring expidition to the Lonely Mountain.
