Light. It is one of the most common symbols in the Bible. When God created the universe, light sprang into the darkness. When angels appear, they are often described as coming with a flash of light. Yet, in normal everyday life, we often fail to notice one of the barest essentials God has provided our world with.

Without light so many things would be impossible. One has only to experience a power-outage to realize this.

Much the same as we often forget about the very things that enables our everyday lives, we often forget the One who created them. In the rush of Christmas joy and excitement the manger scene is naturally at the center. We’ll take the time to read the Christmas Story on Christmas Eve. We might even go to the extra services at church.

But do we truly take the time to recognize what a great gift God gave us on Christmas?

Jesus was the Light, and as John says at the beginning of his book “The true Light was coming into the world” that Bethlehem night. In the still darkness of that stable, hope blossomed.

The significance of this baby’s birth was unmistakable. This was the culmination of hundreds of years of people’s stories, from Adam to Abraham, to Ruth to David, and all through the exiles and years of silence.

Not only that. It was the birth of the world’s last and only hope. The superhero, as it were, who would defeat the darkness once and for all.

Anyone who’s dabbled in The Legend of Zelda video game, The Lord of the Rings, or Wingfeather Saga will know that a light bearing hero is the one destined to save the world.

The same was true with Jesus. He is the Light that gave Life to all men. He is this world’s only hope for true and lasting peace, joy, and fulfillment, and is well worth any time we may spend this season reading about Him and thinking about just how blessed we really are!

Please remember to drop an encouraging comment in the guests' posts! Until next time, Ad Lucem!
