Advent Day 12: L.E. Levens

This morning I just wanted to share a quick little thought themed to something God has impressed on my heart this holiday season, along with a new Christmas song I heard this year. I know I’ve already said a lot about this topic, but I want to repeat it one last time:

Tomorrow we celebrate the birthday of the Savior! Now is truly a time to rejoice, just as the angels did in Luke chapter 2.

But perhaps you're not feeling the holiday spirit?

If not, I encourage you; look for the good things, the small beautiful everyday mercies God sprinkles in today and tomorrow. You’ll be surprised how the tiniest things can make a bad day good.

And even if not, this is not the season of giving or getting. It's not about presents. Not the food. Not even about family. It's about a baby born in a stable to save us, and that’s it. Even if not one single solitary thing goes right tomorrow, nothing can change that. As Paul reminds us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NIV).

And what does that mean for you and me? It means that the ‘Spirit of Christmas’ doesn’t have to die with something not working out, because we know that God has our good in mind even in the little things. Lasting joy can’t be found in waiting on a day, or hoping for something perishable that will be over with all too soon. Our true joy comes when we realize that there is but one constant: God’s unwavering nature of love, goodness, and faithfulness towards us.

Thank you all for joining me this season (and bearing with me despite the technical issues)! Your support means the world to me and my guests. And thank you, Maya, Haniah, Shiloh, Julie, Bella, Morgan, Vanessa, and Emma for bringing your special touch to the holiday season. Merry Christmas! Don't forget to read the Christmas story in Luke 2 this evening! Ad Lucem. (Image above by K. Mitch Hodge on Unsplash).
