I have the great pleasure of reviewing a book written by a friend of mine today: it's called Storylore by Mae McKoy! I was so super excited to be chosen to pre-read and review this book for her, and now I am proud to present aRiveting Reads Review of Mae McKoy's debut novel: Storylore.
Growing up as one of the most sought after targets of anti-royal organizations, Princess Cerys of the Northern Isles fears the day when she might just be all that's left of the Goldbriar family. Taking a trip to the Southern Santuaries with her father, the king, to secure a betrothal to a magic-wielding Faerie Prince, she tries to reconcile herself with the fact that her life is not only always in danger, but not her own.
Arriving in the tech devoid, medieval-esque land of the Faerie people, Cerys is in awe of the beauty of the Sanctuaries and relieved to find the king and queen kind, gracious people. But when her father is mysteriously murdered, Cerys flees, fearing she might be next. She soon finds herself in the Outpost, a city of thieves and unrest.
In the incredible Awakening Cafe, she bumps into a pickpocket and his dragon... disaster ensues, sending princess Cerys, pickpocket Zion, and the dragon Atticus to the Eastern Reaches in search of a cure for a curse. Along the way, they befriend Eirwen: the missing princess of the Sanctuaries, along with an odd young girl named Andromeda, who may just be more than she seems.
But as a new threat arises in the Sanctuaries, Cerys and her friends must band together, master their fears, and stand up to the usurper in order to achieve safety not only for themselves, but for the kingdoms at large. At all comes to a head as Cerys makes a stunning discovery about herself, and goes to confront the vilianess, Beira as her friends battle for victory.
This story was filled with exciting scenes, twist and turns and well developed characters. I loved how Miss McKoy so skillfully wove together numerous well-known fairytales such as Snow White and Beauty and the Beast while also maintaining a storyline all her own. With wonderful jokes and Greek mythology also woven in, it's a new tale you won't want to miss.
Once again, I am so grateful to have been a small part of Mae McKoy's debut novel launch.
